THE DESCENDANTS OF THE
CONNECTICUT 29TH
COLORED VOLUNTARY INFANTRY REGIMENT
MONUMENT

The Connecticut 29th Colored Regiment C.V. Infantry, Inc.’s monument was dedicated on Sept. 20, 2008. Harrison Mero, president of the descendants organization, along with other members, dignitaries, comedian and civil rights activist Dick Gregory, and Civil War re-enactors were on hand to witness the unveiling of an eight-foot granite column and eight smaller obelisks at Criscuolo Park in New Haven during Connecticut Freedom Trail Month (September). The monument at the park (Grapevine Point during the Civil War) is a part of the Trail. The memorial honors 1005 individuals (black and white, including Commanding Officer Colonel William B. Wooster) from 118 towns in Connecticut.
